Lack of snow? Worry over!

December 8th, 2011

So, all the worry should now be gone and the scaremongering should have stopped as the first big snowfall of the winter has arrived in Chamonix and the surrounding resorts.

For a couple of days it dumped big time causing a few problems in town on the roads. A few cars planted themselves in ditches and were spotted at the side of the road in Les Houches. The low lying snow has started to melt as the temperature has slightly risen leaving the classic slush on the pavements and roads.

Up high, lots of snow has fallen with a depth of one metre at Lognan at the Grands Montets. That’s pretty good although maybe rock skis should be considered for the first weekend of opening! Check out the webcams in the valley.

So, for the Christmas holidays, things should be fairly guaranteed, especially on any alpine pastures that are ski runs.
