Le Vagabond. Cheap accommodation and an excellent bar that many locals have as their ‘local’, not far from the centre of Chamonix. www.gitevagabond.com
Le Chamoniard Volant, A real French Gite, not too far out of Chamonix towards Les Praz and Argentière. www.chamoniard.com
Gite Ski Station. Rustic but does the job right next door to Le Brévent. 5 minutes from the centre of town. www.skistation.fr

Le Vert. A simple hotel situated out of Chamonix centre towards Les Houches. www.verthotel.com
Crete Blanche. Tucked behind one of the supermarkets on the high street of Chamonix. An excellent location. www.cretes-blanches.com
Pointe Isabelle. Superb location opposite the great eating establishment McD’s (yes, there’s one in Chamonix minus the golden arches for the sake of aesthetics). www.pointe-isabelle.com
Hotel Les Lanchers. On the main road in Les Praz, not far from La Flégère. Newly refurbished for winter 2010/11, a great place to stop in even if you’re not a resident. www.hotel-lanchers-chamonix.com
Hotel Slalom. If you’re staying in Les Houches, not only a nice, simple hotel, but a also place to socialise. The hotel is directly opposite the bottom of the Bellevue cable car with skiing to within 25 metres of the front door, something not found very often in the Chamonix valley. www.hotelslalom.net

Les Houches
Ski Perf. Situated on Route de l’Alpage in Les Houches, opposite the Hotel du Bois. Excellent for ski servicing and as they’re hand finished, you can have total confidence that your skis will perform as you want them to. Frequented by many a Chamonix-based ski instructor.
